"cala" doesn't work anymore
i don't know if this is just me or a general problem, but for me "cala" (add an event in google calendar) isn't working anymore, i keep landing on the "normal" google calendar page.

Ah, right you are. Thanks!

ZenBug: That's because your default search engine is set to cala. Add a Google search entry and change your "Default search engine" (the dropdown at the top of the page when editing) to Google and you'll be all set.

Wait, scratch that - It looks like cala does work, but the standard Google search is still being interpreted as "add a new calendar event".

I'm having this same issue. When I click the link you posted, I get "Bad Request - Error 400".
Interestingly, if I type random text into the omnibar, instead of searching for that text on google.com, it thinks I want to create it as a new calendar event.

It's possible Google has changed URLs as they're rolling out new designs and integrating with Google+, but I just tried mine and it worked. This is the URL I'm using:
http://www.google.com/calendar/event?ctext=+%s+&action=TEMPLATE&pprop=HowCreated%3AQUICKADD
